On June 27th & 28th, 84 people representing 28 partners from 11 countries gathered for the hybrid kick-off of FAIR-IMPACT. The project will identify and design practical solutions, guidelines and frameworks to realise an EOSC of FAIR data and services. The project, coordinated by DANS, started on 1st of June and is funded by the European Commission Horizon Europe programme for Research and Innovation.

The first Fair Data Day will be held on November, 29 in Utrecht. Save the date and mark your calendar to ensure your place at this new event!

The latest release of the CESSDA Data Catalogue is focused on improving interoperability with external organisations.

The CESSDA Data Catalogue (CDC) contains the metadata of data holdings of CESSDA’s Service Providers, including DANS who is the CESSDA Service provider for the Netherlands. It’s a one-stop-shop for research and discovery, enabling access to extensive collections of data relevant to social science research. The CDC is also part of the EOSC marketplace.

DANS has launched its Data Station Archaeology, the place where the Dutch archaeological research community can store, find, share and publish their data online. Biggest advantages: the large amount of easily searchable data, support for all Creative Commons licenses, the possibility of version control, working with living data and sharing with others.

In the “Featured” section, we cover interesting datasets and research. This time the focus is on ancient excavations. Data Station Manager Archaeology Hella Hollander looks back on her time as an archaeology student and shares her personal experience.

The completed FAIRsFAIR project has been assessed by external reviewers on behalf of the European Commission and the final verdict is highly commendable: “The overall approach of the project management has been exemplary. In addition to the highly structured and proactive approach to coordination, the emphasis on collaboration and co-creation was woven into the structure of the project.”

To reach a common picture on how FAIR and metadata are connected and what guidance can be given to properly provide metadata in order to claim your (spatial) data are FAIR, the Netherlands Geodetic Commission (NCG) organises a workshop for scientists and data stewards working with geospatial data. The workshop shall take place in the afternoon of the 7th of July at the WUR Campus (Omnia building) in Wageningen.

On June 13 the ARCHIVER Pilot End-Phase Event will take place. This event will guide ARCHIVER stakeholders at large through the services developed and their exploitation potential by the research community in EOSC. Policy makers, repository managers and researchers willing to know more about the ARCHIVER model and the technical solutions implemented are more than welcome to join online.
