Empowering researchers in the social sciences through digital technology

In this call the ODISSEI (Open Data Infrastructure for Social Science and Economic Innovations) and the Netherlands eScience Center invite scientists to submit a proposal. In order to do this they need to be employed at an ODISSEI member organization, whose main area of expertise is in the social sciences.

For some time now, there has been a desire to make training materials more FAIR in order to increase the retrievability of existing materials and promote their reusability. Within the Interest Group Education and Training on Handling Research Data (ETHRD) of the Research Data Alliance (RDA), a task force has examined the minimum metadata required when publishing training materials.

With almost 120,000 datasets, our new Data Station Archaeology is the central place where you can easily store, find, share and publish archaeological data online. A large amount of easily searchable reports, photographs, tables and field drawings ready for reuse.

The collection datasets ‘Women in decision-making’ are now available in EASY through a Thematic collection page. Previously the sets could be found as separate items in EASY, now they are bundled on an overview page.

Within practical education, there appeared to be a need for a course specifically about publishing and archiving data and software. DCC-PO and DANS have joined forces to design a new course, tailored to the needs of data stewards working at universities of applied sciences.

On September 1, the second edition of the Open Science Festival will take place around the Atrium of the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. DANS, as a supporter of open data and with its expertise, will contribute to the festival

Anja Smit has been the director of DANS since Monday, July 11. She succeeds Henk Wals, who has taken a well-deserved retirement. Smit brings with her more than 30 years of (international) experience in the field of sustainable access to scientific information.

On June 27th & 28th, 84 people representing 28 partners from 11 countries gathered for the hybrid kick-off of FAIR-IMPACT. The project will identify and design practical solutions, guidelines and frameworks to realise an EOSC of FAIR data and services. The project, coordinated by DANS, started on 1st of June and is funded by the European Commission Horizon Europe programme for Research and Innovation.
