This dataset from H. J. Pierik of Utrecht University provides a new overview of drift sand appearances and activity for the period from about 5000 BC to about 1700 AD in the Netherlands.

On behalf of the ‘Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed’, a new interactive map file with elevation models of the past 14,000 years has been developed. This has happened in a joint venture between Utrecht University, TNO – Geological Service of the Netherlands and Deltares. At a later moment, the online portal ‘Kenniskaart’ is being established for archaeological professionals on the basis of this interactive map file.

The European OpenAIRE 2020 project, that started on 1 January 2015, ended on 30 June 2018. The aim of this OpenAIRE project is to support the open science policy of the European Commission. DANS has been involved in this project in recent years, and has carried out various activities.

In addition to datasets of archaeological excavations in the Netherlands, a dataset of excavations from abroad has now been published. This dataset contains the primary data of two excavation projects in Egypt.

We are proud to announce that information scientist Herbert van de Sompel will join DANS in November as Chief Innovation Officer.

A new thematic collection is available in EASY: CLIWOC. This is a collection of 283 databases with daily weather observations for oceans in the period 1750 -1850, with accompanying ship’s logs.
