Programma OSF2022

The Netherlands is a frontrunner in Open Science. This once more became apparent at the Open Science Festival 2022, which was held the 1st of September at the VU Amsterdam. The festival was fully booked, with 300 attendees on site and many hundreds following the event online.

Only 1 percent of almost 24,000 archaeological research reports from the period 2002-2011 are missing. The Inspectorate for Public Information and Heritage (IOE) published an article about this. Worse was feared. How did this disappointing result come about?

Over the last few months, DANS was part of the author team that created a working paper on the creation of a European network of FAIR-enabling Trustworthy Digital Repositories (TDRs). This working paper depicts the vision of this Network and the next steps to make it a reality. The paper has now been published online.

During a session of the Dutch national Open Science Festival, ODISSEI launched the first version of the ODISSEI portal. This portal combines metadata from a wide variety of research data repositories into a single interface, allowing for advanced semantic queries to support findability, and facilitate data access to social science datasets in the Netherlands.

DANS is the Dutch national expertise centre and repository for research data. We help researchers make their data available for reuse. Therefore, we have joined the European coalition that sets a shared direction for changes in assessment practices for research, researchers and research performing organisations. The overarching goal is to improve the quality and impact of research.

During four intensive Bootcamp days in June-July at the Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) in Amersfoort and Amsterdam, nine course participants studied the ins and outs of good data management in heritage studies. Under the guidance of a heritage data coach and a research data coach, the course participants, who come from different organisations, worked on data management plans and personal learning objectives. Speakers from collection management, research and policy provided the Bootcamp with an extra dimension of expertise and experience. The Bootcamp was a first training pilot of the Dutch node of the European Research Infrastructure for the Heritage Sciences (E-RIHS).

DANS and IKOS continue their collaboration in various forms. Andrea Scharnhorst from DANS is appointed as Associate fellow at the Institute for Knowledge Organization and Structure (IKOS).

After successful earlier editions, a new edition of the DANS Data trail will take place on Thursday, 22 September 2022. This time the topic will be how the EOSC organisation stimulates community based Open Science.
