Archiving and repository management

Archiving and repository management can be understood as the acquisition, care, arrangement, description and retrieval of records once they have been transferred from an organisation to the archive/repository. DANS has its roots in archiving and repository management, and continues to manage the publicly accessible data repository platform, DataverseNL and the affiliated Data Stations.

DANS is strongly committed to promoting the ecosystem of trustworthy digital repositories. It hosts the secretariat of CoreTrustSeal, the core level certification for repositories based on the Core Trustworthy Data Repositories Requirements. DANS is also a subscriber to the TRUST principles for repository management: Transparency, Responsibility, User focus, Sustainability, and Technology.

DANS regularly shares expertise in archive/repository management through collaborations with research infrastructures (e.g. CESSDA), international networks (e.g. Research Data Alliance) and national organisations in the Netherlands (e.g. Thematic Digital Competence Centres).
