Wim Hugo appointed Chief Technology Officer at DANS

On April 1, Wim Hugo will take up the position of Chief Technology Officer at DANS, the Dutch national centre of expertise and repository for research data.

Wim Hugo will be responsible for all technological aspects of the data services of DANS. Together with his tech team and BI-colleagues, he will continue to link user requirements with new, innovative data services, in close cooperation with other service providers.

Until recently, Hugo was Chief Information Officer of the South African Environmental Observation Network. He has a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, experience in techno-economic feasibility studies, management consulting, systems engineering and systems architecture. Before joining SAEON in 2011, his career included work in the oil industry as a research and planning engineer.

Research Data Infrastructure Architecture, Open Science and Open Data policy and implementation are fields of work common to Hugo. He participated in several global efforts, projects and initiatives to promote trusted, interoperable and federated research data infrastructures. During 2020, he served as Director of Strategy for ISC WDS, Chair and Chair of the ILTER Information Management Committee. He is member of the CoreTrustSeal Board.

Wim Hugo takes the place of Herbert Van de Sompel, who takes a step back at his own request. Van de Sompel will remain involved as an Honorary Fellow and consultant.
