DANS rewards student helper with ticket to IASSIST African Chapter

In May and June 2023 the University of Pretoria, South Africa held their annual CODATA-RDA School for Research Data Science (SoRDS). This online school, part of the international SoRDS network, focuses on building foundational data science skills amongst early career researchers in low/middle-income countries. The schools are staffed by volunteer instructors and a small number of student helpers to support the learners. These dedicated volunteer helpers play a vital role in the success of the schools. To encourage the student helpers and acknowledge the importance of their work, DANS awarded the most active helper with a ticket to the IASSIST African chapter.

DANS host the IFLA satellite meeting

Collaborations

The IFLA Library Services for Multicultural Populations (MCULTP) Satellite event with the theme ‘Empowering Diverse Librarianship’ will present library workers with the tools to build, sustain, and strengthen a diverse and inclusive workplace through a variety of presentations and panel discussions. This Satellite aims to hold a forum for all library workers, to establish mutual understanding through hearing others’ voices.

Academic Heritage Foundation presents guide to preserving digitally born academic heritage

On Thursday 25 May, SAE (Stichting Academisch Erfgoed) presented the report ‘Dicht het zwarte gat!’ (translation: Close the black hole) to raise awareness of academic heritage that is digital in origin and in reality not under legal archiving obligations. DANS’ Deputy Director Ingrid Dillo contributed to this report and spoke at the symposium about the opportunities offered by (inter)national scientific data infrastructures to preserve digitally born academic heritage and keep it accessible.
