ODISSEI receives major Roadmap investment to understand social change

1 May 2020

ODISSEI (Open Data Infrastructure for Social Science and Economic Innovations) is one of the seven major scientific infrastructures that receive funding from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) as part of the Dutch Roadmap for Large-Scale Scientific Infrastructures.

ODISSEI is a collaboration between 34 partner organizations that have joined together to improve data available to social scientists. The investment will be used to accelerate the development of computational social sciences in the Netherlands over the next five years.

Henk Wals, director of DANS: “At DANS, we are excited about the allocation of NWO Roadmap funding to ODISSEI. We’ll get started on the ODISSEI Portal infrastructure in collaboration with our colleagues at VU University and SURF. The aim is to build a facility that makes it easier for researchers to find and reuse datasets from social sciences. Collaboration with the repositories that manage these datasets will be vital. Connecting to international infrastructures is of course equally important. In this respect, the involvement of DANS in many European projects is an excellent starting point. We will also pay close attention to the safeguards required when accessing sensitive data. For now, I would like to congratulate all colleagues involved on achieving this wonderful outcome. We look forward to working with them on this great project.”
