Funding opportunity for researchers concerning digital infrastructure

12 May 2021

Through the Platform Digital Infrastructure Social Sciences & Humanities (PDI-SSH), researchers within the SSH domain can apply for funding for their projects focused on digitisation and digital infrastructure.

The main goal of the 2021 Call Digital Infrastructure is to strengthen research and infrastructure in the field of digitisation within the SSH domain. Interdisciplinary SSH research on digitisation and collaboration between the social sciences and humanities is strongly encouraged. A budget of 6.5 million euros is available to support a domain-wide SSH digital plan. Proposals can be submitted for projects between 100,000 and 1 million euros.

Submission of proposals is possible until 30 June 2021.

DANS as project partner

DANS is the Dutch national centre of expertise and repository for research data. We are certified for the sustainable storage of data and give advice on Research Data Management, FAIR data and Open Science. Based on this expertise, DANS is often involved in projects regarding digital infrastructure in the Netherlands and internationally.

An example of a project funded by the previous PDI-SSH call is the Pure3D project. Pure3D works on the development of an infrastructure for the publication and preservation of 3D Scholarship. DANS – as an expert in the field of preferred data formats – will contribute to the project by working together with the involved partners to ensure the sustainable archiving and FAIRness of 3D data.

On a European level, DANS is involved in the Horizon 2020 project Polifonia that implements a digital ecosystem for European musical heritage. Data experts and archive employees of DANS support the project in the innovative, iterative data management process.
