DANS member of the Global Dataverse Community Consortium (GDCC)

19 April 2021

Since 2019, DANS has been a member of the Global Dataverse Community Consortium (GDCC). Together with the Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) at Harvard University and the Odum Institute at the University of North Carolina, DANS was involved in the creation of the consortium, which currently includes more than 30 institutions across five continents.

The Global Dataverse Community Consortium (GDCC) provides a platform to collaborate and support institutions that use the Dataverse software for their repository services for archiving research data. Through collaborative efforts, Dataverse is being further developed under the leadership of a team from Harvard University. For example, the team is currently reviewing the code that DANS developed within the SSHOC project for linking to controlled vocabularies, which gives an enormous boost to Linked Data.

Within the long-term vision of DANS, the Dataverse software will play a major role for the DANS services and will provide users with more tools for the archiving of research data. In addition to all the current functionalities, DANS will also be able to offer more to the various research communities. Examples include: login options with a SURFconext, ORCID or Google account, transparent version management, domain-specific metadata standards and support for various controlled vocabularies.
