Also in EASY: manuscripts

16 January 2020

The international day of manuscript is celebrated on January 23. The Handwriting Development Platform created this day to draw attention to handwriting – something that is done less and less in the digital age. EASY also contains data about manuscripts.

For example the dataset Steph. Blankaart: Schou-burg der Rupsen, Wormen, Maden, en Vliegende Dierkens daar uit voortkomende. Handschrift van het tweede deel (1688)“. This dataset is about a manuscript never published in print with pasted originals of illustrations, autograph. The title page is from the printed edition from 1688, the words ‘second part’ have been added by hand.

Another example of a manuscript is “Hendrik van Veldeke / Heinrich von Veldeke – Eneïde – Eneasroman – Transcriptions of Manuscripts“. A summarizing online edition of the transcriptions of the Eneas novel by Hendrik van der Veldeke, with careful normalization of the various manuscripts, as well as the text of the Ludwig Ettmüller edition. As far as is known, this is the first courtly novel in a Germanic language.
