Report on Public data in the cultural field published by DEN

19 March 2020

In collaboration with EMC Cultuuronderzoeken, DEN has made an inventory of initiatives in the field of collecting, analyzing and sharing data about (non-) visitors to places and aspects of culture and heritage.

Nowadays, more and more data is made available due to the increasing digitization in society. The methodologies for acquiring data are also increasingly advanced: compared to the time when drawing up and processing completed questionnaires was the standard, techniques such as data mining make data retrieval much faster – even real time – and easier.

The report reflects current capabilities and general findings. In addition to Dutch activities, the overview of digitization initiatives in the field of heritage and culture has also taken into account a number of foreign initiatives.
