New in EASY: Geographical maps and elevation models

10 August 2018

On behalf of the ‘Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed’, a new interactive map file with elevation models of the past 14,000 years has been developed. This has happened in a joint venture between Utrecht University, TNO – Geological Service of the Netherlands and Deltares. At a later moment, the online portal ‘Kenniskaart’ is being established for archaeological professionals on the basis of this interactive map file.

This dataset includes a series of landscape maps, paleo-elevation models and the files that are needed to produce these into interactive map files. In addition, the dataset contains documentation for a large number of facets of project implementation, for example documentation on the creation of, and the source files used for the end product, such as area classification, the terminology of the legend, the elevation models and their synthesis. By publishing this dataset, the digital products are also available outside the ‘Kenniskaart‘ so that they can be applied in a broader physical-geographic, geological or archaeological research area.
