Herbert Van de Sompel endowed professor Ghent University

13 February 2020

Herbert Van de Sompel, Chief Innovation Officer at DANS, has been appointed endowed professor at the University of Ghent.

Van de Sompel and Professor Ruben Verborgh will work on the Internet Technology and Data Science Lab (IDLAB) of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. As an endowed professor (Flemish: visiting professor), Herbert spends twenty percent of his time in Ghent, focusing his research into the (re)decentralization of the web. In collaboration with colleagues, Van de Sompel will investigate the possibilities of publishing scientific publications in a decentralized environment. An environment in which scientists and research remain responsible and in charge of their own published papers.

Van de Sompel is involved in various projects within DANS. As Chief Innovation Officer, he contributes to the innovation of several national and international projects in which DANS is involved.
