Essentials 4 Data Support: an update

29 August 2019

For the past 5 years, Research Data Netherlands (RDNL) has offered the “Essentials 4 Data Support” course, an introductory course for those who (want to) support researchers in storing, managing, archiving and sharing their research data.

Research Data Netherlands is a collaboration between 4TU.Centre for Research Data, Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS) and SURFsara. With this coalition, which is also open to other parties, the three data archives join forces in the field of long-term data archiving.

Essentials 4 Data Support, available in Dutch and English, has already trained more than 300 data supporters. Students are often library staff who work as information specialists, but the course has also proved useful for policy advisers and IT specialists. The course is taken by people all over the Netherlands, from abroad, from different institutions and from different research areas.

This summer, the Essentials 4 Data Support course was adjusted  due to the rapid developments in this area. Now it will address more topics such as technical developments, legal issues, and overarching themes such as FAIR and EOSC.

Registration for the autumn course is still open. With two group meetings on Thursday 10 October and Tuesday 19 November, in addition to online course material and weekly assignments.
