DANS updates preferred formats

17 February 2020

Not all file formats ensure long-term usability, accessibility and preservation of data. DANS works with preferred formats.

Preferred formats are file formats of which DANS is confident that they will offer the best long-term guarantees in terms of usability, accessibility and sustainability. Deposits of research data in preferred formats will always be accepted by DANS. With the policy on preferred formats, DANS takes a leading role in national and generic services for making digital data visible, usable and sustainable.

DANS has published extended guidelines on its website. These guidelines are constantly updated to the latest standards. Separate information about each file format is mentioned.

As an expert in an international knowledge network, DANS provides an international workshop on FAIR Data Management at NWO on 16 March, of which preferred formats are an important part.
