Grid files that are directly linked to commercial packages will enjoy a low degree of openness, interoperability and robustness.

Data from the Golden Software program Surfer is difficult to open outside of Surfer if this data is stored in binary form. Surfer offers the option to save the data as ASCII.

It is recommended to deliver Grid files in ASCII text.

Surfer Grid is a non-preferred format for file type raster grid.
