Data ethics and GDPR
The rapidly expanding data landscape comes with a range of challenges relating to ethical use and reuse. At DANS we take data ethics very seriously and regularly contribute to discussions on the responsible (re)use of data, the evolution of ethically sound data infrastructures, and the scrutiny of the evolving research landscape.
A core component of our teaching involves instruction of the management of sensitive data. These data, according to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is understood as personal data revealing political opinions; personal data revealing religious or philosophical beliefs; personal data revealing trade union membership; genetic data; biometric data (where used for identification purposes).
DANS offers training on the management of sensitive data through data management plans and research data management strategies. It also offers training specifically on GDPR and research through the RDNL course GDPR for Data Support and upcoming modules on sensitive data for the EOSC Future and BY-COVID projects.
If you’d like to learn more about GDPR, we recommend checking out the free online materials of the GDPR for Data Support course or signing up for a live training. If you’d like to test your knowledge of managing sensitive data, why not try out the European Commission’s GDPR decision tree?
