What products and services does DANS offer?
DANS currently offers a range of products and services, each with its own characteristics and features. In summary, these products and services are:
Data Stations and EASY
- Researchers can deposit data.
- Metadata fields follow domain-specific standards.
- Curation supported by DANS.
- Long-term preservation through the Vault.
- Everyone can find data for reuse.
- Metadata can be harvested via OAI-PMH.
- Free service.
- Repositories are certified as trustworthy by CoreTrustSeal or are in the process of being certified (Data Stations).
DANS is in the process of replacing its legacy repository system (EASY) with domain-specific Data Stations. The Data Station Archaeology and the Data Station Social Sciences and Humanities are operational, with Life, Health and Medical Sciences, and Physical and Technical Sciences to follow.
DataverseNL
DataverseNL provides a hosted repository service to institutions.
- Institutes can establish their own repository.
- Affiliated researchers can deposit data.
- Metadata fields chosen by institutes.
- Curation supported by institutes.
- Long-term preservation through the Vault.
- Everyone can find data for reuse.
- Metadata can be harvested via OAI-PMH.
- Subscription service for institutes.
Vault Service
The Vault Service provides long-term preservation services to institutional clients.
- Institutes can use this service.
- Works complementary with local institutional repository.
- Minimal metadata requirements.
- Automated transformation of obsolete formats.
- Long-term preservation.
- Data is only findable for data owners.
- Metadata cannot be harvested.
- Subscription service for institutes.
The Vault Service is used by default by DataverseNL, EASY, and the Data Stations to provide long-term preservation for datasets archived at DANS.
