This initiative, funded by Open Science NL, aims to further develop the competencies and skills of data professionals, establish a sustainable infrastructure for training and knowledge sharing, and, last but not least, contribute to the transition towards Open Science.
A new chapter for training and community
The platform builds upon existing initiatives and consolidates training, learning materials, and networking activities. “With this project, we are taking a significant step towards an integrated national training programme,” says Michelle van den Berk, research data management specialist at DANS. “We are creating a unified professional structure in which existing RDNL trainings are embedded, while allowing space for further growth.”
DANS contributes to both the content and technical development of the platform. We assist in the design of an online learning environment and the development of a national curriculum, including certification and learning paths for data professionals. Additionally, we ensure that the platform provides broad support within the research landscape by bringing together relevant networks and institutions. This includes collaboration with SURF, 4TU.ResearchData, Health-RI, and the network of DCCs within research organisations. Through the TDCCs in various scientific domains, we also strengthen the connection with research disciplines. Together with these partners, we are working on a sustainable model to ensure the platform remains a valuable resource for data professionals beyond the four-year project.
The Netherlands as an international example
According to Marjan Grootveld, team leader of research data experts at DANS, the Netherlands can continue to play a pioneering role internationally in the field of data stewardship: “There is a great deal of global interest in how we organise training and support for data professionals in the Netherlands. With this platform, we bring supply and demand for training together and strengthen the community, with the goal that professionals not only learn but also remain actively engaged with one another.”
The platform not only provides a space for knowledge sharing but also supports data professionals in their career development. Through badges and certifications, participants can demonstrate the skills they have acquired, an important step in further professionalising the field.
