The Summer School is intended for researchers at the start of their career. Because Data Stewardship is high on the agenda at national and international research institutes, this year a route for Data Stewards was added to the program as a pilot. The pilot was provided by FAIRsFAIR, a project that DANS coordinates.
During the first week, the responsibility of researchers as conscious and responsible practitioners of Open Science was the main focus. To this end, programming languages such as Git, R, and Shell were taught. This was done with the help of the open-source platform Software Carpentry: freely available training material ready for reuse and continuous improvement.
In the second week, the teachers (including DANS colleague Marjan Grootveld) focused, with the pilot program for data stewards, on the question of what skills are needed to make and keep research data FAIR and how we can ensure that we use these skills to keep up with developments within the field.
