This year’s theme is “audio archiving”: video is image, but audio is imagination. During the symposium archiving of both analogue and digital audio will be considered. In addition, improving accessibility and investigating creative forms of reusing sound collections will also be discussed. What is available from the audio archives, what standards are currently used and how does the process of description proceed? Attention will also be paid to the celebration of 100 years of Dutch radio.
The two keynotes of the symposium have been confirmed! This year Richard Ranft (British Library) will give a presentation, as well as the duo of Jan Douwe Kroeske and Harm de Kleine (Double 2).
Richard Ranft is Head of Sound and Vision at the British Library and talks about his central role in the British project “Unlocking our Sound Heritage”. This program aims to safeguard the national audio heritage and make it available to the public.
Jan Douwe Kroeske and Harm de Kleine from production company Double 2 will present about the extensive archive of the 2 Meter Sessions that is now being digitized to prevent loss. The 2 Meter Sessions consist of unique, mostly acoustic live recordings with (inter)national artists that were broadcast on TV and radio.
