DANS at IDCC25 and FAIRfest
In the month of February, DANS will enjoy a busy and celebratory week! Read where you can see and meet us, and how to register for these upcoming events.
International Digital Curation Conference
The 19th edition of the International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC25) will take place between 17-19 February 2025 at Madurodam, an amusement park with a miniature of view Holland’s highlights and heritage. We will not let this opportunity to meet our international colleagues, collaborators, and users right around the corner of our own offices pass us by, so you will be able to spot DANS on the agenda in many places.
IDCC kicks off with a workshop day, where you can join us for ‘Building a CoreTrustSeal community’. With our extensive CoreTrustSeal experiences, and our recent endeavor in setting up the NDE community around certification, we will give the opportunity to brainstorm your own CoreTrustSeal community and discuss with like-minded peers. You can sign up for the workshop here. You can also find us at the ‘Supporting communities in implementing FAIR principles for Open Science’ workshop that afternoon, where different FAIR-IMPACT guidance will be presented and discussed. You can sign up for that workshop here. Registration is free but mandatory, and spaces to the workshops are limited.
On Tuesday, DANS will present posters on a variety of topics, including the latest version of the FAIR-Aware tool (Mike Priddy and Maaike Verburg), a celebration of twenty years of DANS (Ricarda Braukmann, Jetze Touber and Cees Hof) and the Thematic Digital Competence Centers. Training is also on the agenda as Marjan Grootveld, Michelle van den Berk, Ingrid Dillo, and colleagues team up to present a poster on RDNL’s role in training data supporters.’ Catch us during the different poster sessions to ask us anything! DANS Fellow Andrew Treloar will also give a presentation that day on ‘Global Open Research Commons: Enabling Curation for the Next 20 Years’.
The main theme of this year’s IDCC conference is “Twenty years back, twenty years forward: lessons and directions in digital curation”. In line with this theme, senior advisor Ingrid Dillo will present ‘Twenty Years Back, Five Years Forward: The Past, Present And Future Of DANS’ on the last day of the conference, to celebrate DANS’s 20 year anniversary that is also coming up this year. Also on Wednesday, Ricarda Braukmann and Deborah Thorpe will present the findings of their recent study into access procedures for restricted accessdata ‘Improving the Transparency of Data Access Procedures’.

FAIRfest
We will stick around in Madurodam for the rest of the week, as directly after IDCC25 we will continue with FAIRfest: Celebrating advancements of FAIR solutions in EOSC. On 20 and 21 of February, sister-projects FAIR-IMPACT and FAIRCORE4EOSC are hosting their closing conference. The projects will come to their conclusions in May of this year, and through FAIRfest they will share their achievements and look to the future of all things FAIR. As coordinator of FAIR-IMPACT and partner in FAIRCORE4EOSC, DANS contributes to the programme of FAIRfest extensively. The festival will include different keynote speakers, plenary sessions covering aspects of F, A, I, and R, panel discussions, and an interactive marketplace and poster gallery.
Registration for FAIRfest is free but mandatory. Find the full programme of FAIRfest here, and register for the event here.
