Data Station Physical and Technical Sciences

This Data Station allows you to deposit and search for data within the fields of physical and technical sciences. DANS will launch this Data Station in the near future. Until then, you can use this page to deposit and search for data using our data service EASY.

If you have a question, please check the frequently asked questions or send your question to Data Station Manager Cees Hof.

Frequently asked questions

Can I deposit my research data with DANS?

Yes, you can! Together we will ensure the long-term accessibility of your research data. Deposit your data here. If your organisation is associated with DataverseNL, the repository service for universities and other research institutions, you can deposit data with your organisation’s Dataverse. More information about DataverseNL can be found here.

How can I log in?

Go to the login page. Preferably use your institutional account via SURFconext. If your organisation is not a SURFconext member, you can create an EASY account here.

How can I deposit data?

Click ‘Deposit your data’, fill in the fields and enter the metadata. Accept the deposit agreement and click ‘Save draft’ or ‘Submit deposit’. A data manager will verify the dataset, after which it is published. The more metadata you provide, the easier your dataset will be found.

Which file formats and metadata can I provide?

DANS works with preferred formats. You can learn more here. Specific delivery specifications apply per domain. You can learn more here.

Which licenses can I choose?

Information about licenses and other legal issues can be found on this page.

What information do I need to provide when depositing data?

In addition to general information about your datasets, such as title, author and abstract, DANS uses discipline-specific delivery specifications. More information can be found here

Are there any costs associated with storing my data in a Data Station?

DANS does not have a fixed price for depositing data. The rates are determined by a number of factors. Depositing is free of charge for individual researchers with datasets under 50 GB. For larger datasets, please contact DANS. More information can be found on this page.

News

On Monday 20 February, NWO brought the news that nine projects will receive 140 million euros to set up or improve large-scale research infrastructure. The Dutch research field jointly set its priorities for investment in large-scale research infrastructure for the next ten years in the so called National Roadmap for Large-Scale Research Infrastructure. DANS is involved in two of these projects: SSHOC-NL and LTER-LIFE.

The formation of three science-wide Digital Competence Centres has started. As a first step, the Governing Board of NWO has agreed to allocate a total of 4.5 million euros for the appointment of network coordinators. They will strengthen data intensive research together with experts and infrastructures within their research domain.

To reach a common picture on how FAIR and metadata are connected and what guidance can be given to properly provide metadata in order to claim your (spatial) data are FAIR, the Netherlands Geodetic Commission (NCG) organises a workshop for scientists and data stewards working with geospatial data. The workshop shall take place in the afternoon of the 7th of July at the WUR Campus (Omnia building) in Wageningen.
