DANS facilitates open access data
From now on, depositors can make their datasets available under full open access in EASY. Interested parties can download this type of dataset without registration. This makes research data sharing even easier.
DANS member Scientific Committee ICSU-WDS
ICSU World Data System (ICSU-WDS) has recently appointed a new Scientific Committee for the period 2015-2018. It involves eight new members, including Ingrid Dillo of DANS.
Website completely overhauled
The national website on open access has been completely revamped. It now has a new, up-to-date look and is more interactive. provides information in both Dutch and English about key open access developments in the Netherlands. The site also presents general up-to-date information on open access, a subject that is important for scholarship at home and abroad.
KNOWeSCAPE organizes conference From Data to Knowledge
The yearly conference of the European Network KNOWeSCAPE will be held from 7 till 9 October. The theme of this third conference is ‘From Data to Knowledge – Measuring, Predicting and Visualizing Science’.
Collaboration DANS and Mendeley on archiving datasets via the new Data Repository platform Mendeley Data
Mendeley launched a new data repository platform: Mendeley Data ( The data submitted by researchers on this platform will be included in the long-term archive of DANS.
DANS and Brill Publishers launch online journal on research data
Today, the Research Data Journal for the Humanities and Social Sciences is launched. It is a new, peer reviewed, online-only, open-access data journal.
DANS certified as Regular Member of ICSU-WDS
DANS is accepted unconditionally as Regular Member of the International Council for Science – World Data System (ICSU-WDS). With this certification WDS sees DANS as a trustworthy party in terms of authenticity, integrity, confidentiality and availability of data and services.
DANS grant for ICPSR Summer Program
DANS provides a grant to visit the Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research 2016 of the ICPSR in the United States.
DANS and Inria sign the MoU for Software Heritage
DANS will collaborate with Inria (France) on the development of the Software Heritage Initiative. On June 30 Inria officially announced the collaboration with DANS with the launch of the Software Heritage website.
DANS colloquium - CEDAR and 4 years of Historical Census Data on the Web

EHRI Portal receives Honorary Mention Prix Ars Electronica 2018
On June 11 2018 it was announced that the EHRI-portal won an honorary mention of the Prix Ars Electronica in the category ‘Digital Communities’.
Nominations for the Dutch Data Prize 2018 will close in two weeks
This year the Dutch Data Prize will be awarded for the fifth time. The prize will be granted to a researcher or a research group that has made a special contribution to science by making research data accessible for new or additional research. Just like in 2016, the prize will be awarded in three categories: humanities & social sciences, exact & technical sciences and medical & life sciences.
Emily Bongiovanni: an independent study to observe and understand the structure of research data services
Emily Bongiovanni, a graduate student in the Library and Information Science program at the University of Denver (US), has developed an independent study to understand the structure of research data services.
