Why this workshop
When you deposit research data in a repository, you want others to be able to find, understand, and reuse your work. In practice, this often depends on the quality of the data description. This workshop focuses on how clear, informative descriptions foster the trust that your data are relevant and thereby encourage their reuse.
What will you learn?
In this one-hour session, we will take the perspective of a potential data reuser. Together, we will explore what constitutes an effective data description in a repository context. Drawing on examples from the DANS Data Stations, we will discuss:
- what information helps others to assess the relevance and quality of data;
- practical ways to improve your own data descriptions.
The session is interactive and will encourage you to reflect on your own practice. You are encouraged to share examples of confusing or challenging dataset descriptions. You can do this through the registration form or by sending us an email.
