International students explore Dutch data and heritage practices through Dutch Design

DANS is involved as a knowledge partner in iSchool Netherlands: Dutch Design, an educational initiative that offers international students insight into the Dutch landscape of data management and digital heritage. The programme is organised in collaboration with the national iSchools platform, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, DOK Delft, and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

International knowledge exchange
Participation in Dutch Design gives students the opportunity to engage with current practices in the European data landscape. The cohort consists primarily of Library and Information Science students from the University of Washington (UW). DANS’s contribution supports capacity building and international knowledge exchange at the intersection of data, technology, and heritage.

Held in Amsterdam, the programme includes case studies on how libraries, museums, and information services engage with diverse communities and implement innovative practices. Students explore topics such as digital scholarship, AI-driven archiving, and diversity and inclusion in programme design. Through lectures and visits to cultural institutions, they gain insight into the practical and ethical dimensions of data management, collective memory, and institutional innovation in both the Netherlands and Belgium.

15 July: Data infrastructures and open science in practice
DANS contributes with sessions on the functioning of data infrastructures, focusing on the use of standards, sustainable archiving, and the practical implementation of open science principles. On 15 July, students will be welcomed in The Hague by DANS data experts, who will share perspectives on both the technical and ethical aspects of data stewardship.
