European archival guidelines for archaeologists

8 April 2024

To protect archaeological heritage, the European Archaeological Council (EAC) has published archival guidelines for archaeologists.

These are based on research and surveys conducted in close cooperation between EAC and SEADDA, a community of European archaeologists. Recommendations for practical measurements to be taken in the legislative and organizational framework are made. DANS led the work in SEADDA to understand current international best practices in archiving and supports the implementation of these recommendations with the Data Station Archaeology. The proposed measures should be applied as widely as possible as a basic standard for the care of archaeological cultural heritage.

“Revisiting the Valletta Convention for the Digital Age: Position statement on archiving primary archaeological data” is out to be shared and used on Zenodo.
