From 1 July DANS is partner of The Language Archive, a part of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (MPI). The cooperation with DANS aims to further strengthen The Language Archive and stems from agreements previously concluded with the KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences).

The Language Archive (TLA) is located at the MPI in Nijmegen and focuses on the permanent storage of digital language resources and access to these resources for researchers and other parties. TLA also aims at promoting linguistic research by developing new technologies.

Max Planck and the Academy
Last year, the KNAW signed an agreement with the Max Planck Gesellschaft and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences to contribute to The Language Archive. On behalf of the Academy, DANS now gives shape to this appointment by functioning as a secondary establishment of TLA. The Meertens Institute will also play a role.

Contribution DANS
Because of the experience with how to store research data for the long-term and how to make them available, DANS can assist The Language Archive in its mission. Peter Doorn, director of DANS, welcomes the collaboration. “We think DANS can make an important contribution to sustainable access to language data in the Netherlands,” said Doorn.
