DANS Colloquium on Research and Data 3: Christine Borgman: Big Data, Little Data, No Data

The DANS R&D colloquium is a meeting place for researchers, archivists and ICT specialists. Organized by DANS, its focus is on research data and what you can do with it. You are invited to participate in discussing the challenge to keep data fixed and to invent tools that can evolve fast in a landscape that is on the move. If you have done projects in preserving and reusing data we find a slot for you to share your experiences.

Theme June 17: Christine Borgman: Big Data, Little Data, No Data

The latest book by Christine Borgman about the role and fate of data in science, scholarship and scholarly communication has attracted quite some attention. Data in isolation means nothing. In order to be useful in science, data must be cared for and cultivated by the infrastructures of knowledge: people that follow best practices together with methods and technologies that rise to the demands for storing and exchanging data.

Christine Borgman is Professor and Presidential Chair in Information Studies at the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and has written several awarded books about information and science. She also happens to be one of the visiting fellows at DANS, in which capacity she will make a brief visit to DANS and give a talk about her new book. That will happen at Wednesday 17 June 2015, 15:00-17:00 at DANS, Anna van Saksenlaan 51; 2593 HW The Hague.

We recommended this event to researchers and policy makers in the Netherlands and the EU. Let Christine update you about research data: what it is and what people do with it, not only in your own discipline, but in many others.
