1 September 2016 - DANS colloquium: CEDAR and 4 years of Historical Census Data on the Web

In this academic year inaugural talk, Albert Meroño Peñuela and Ashkan Ashkpour, the two doctoral students of the CEDAR project, will present the results of 4 years of research on historical census data and semantic technologies. The CEDAR project (2012-2016) focused on converting the Dutch historical censuses dataset (1795-1971) from Excel spreadsheets to Linked Data, publishing them on the Web, and harmonizing their variables so that they could be queried in a combined way through space and time. The presenters will focus on the previous efforts on improving access to the Dutch historical censuses dataset and the challenges this brings, reflect on the two major outcomes of the project and showcase useful resources.
