We recommend using a federated account, preferably an institutional account via SURFconext or an ORCID account.<\/p>\n<p>If these two preferred options are not available for you, you can use a Github account or a Google account or create an eduID as a proxy for an institutional account with your e-mail address.<\/p>\n<p>If you have deposited the Data Stations\u2019 predecessor EASY in the past, you will also be able to log into the DANS Data Stations with the credentials from your EASY account.<\/p>\n<h2>Start depositing<\/h2>\n<p>After logging in to the Data Station, go to <i>\u2018Add Data\u2019 <\/i>and select <i>\u2018New Dataset\u2019 <\/i>to start depositing your dataset<i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Providing Metadata<br \/><\/b>Adding rich metadata and documenting your dataset well is the most important part of making your data FAIR. When you create a new dataset you will see a list of metadata fields that you can fill in.<\/p>\n<p>A small number of these metadata fields are mandatory. However, the more fields you enter, the better your data can be found and understood.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to get an overview of all the available metadata fields, you can find a spreadsheet of the metadata fields available in the Data Station SSH <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.34894\/T5X10K\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A list of all controlled vocabularies that the Data Station SSH uses is available <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.34894\/1E7QNO\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The other Data Stations follow a similar structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>General remarks<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All metadata are publicly available. The metadata fields should <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thus <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">only contain personal data that is used to account for the dataset. The metadata must not contain personal data of individuals occurring in the research data of your dataset.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you deposit a dataset at DANS, a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) will automatically be assigned to the dataset. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A DOI is a type of persistent identifier (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/depositing-data-manual\/during-depositing\/persistent-identifiers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PID<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which can be used to reference your dataset. The DOI is reserved when depositing and will become active after publication of the dataset.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To describe the dataset, u<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">se the language in which the data is recorded; if this is a language other than Dutch or English, please include a summary and keywords in Dutch or English in addition to the original description.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that all metadata fields have support information available to explain what information is asked for in a specific field. You can read this information by hovering over the question mark next to the field.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below we highlight some elements from the different metadata blocks that you should pay special attention to.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Citation<\/b><b> metadata<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this block you can provide general information about your dataset like the title and a description of the dataset.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure to add detailed information in the \u2018Description\u2019 so that a user finding the dataset can understand what kind of data you deposited and what the dataset is about. After reading the description, a user should have a good overview of the content and purpose of the dataset, how it was created and how it is structured so that the user can evaluate whether the dataset is suitable for reuse.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the metadata field \u2018Author\u2019, you can add your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orcid.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ORCID <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by selecting ORCID as the \u2018Identifier Type\u2019 and then pasting your ORCID number (e.g. 0000-0001-2345-6789) in the \u2018Identifier\u2019 field. The system then generates a link in the metadata. If your ORCID is already linked to your account in the Data Station, the ORCID will already be filled in for you.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u2018Affiliation\u2019 field linked to the \u2018Author\u2019 uses <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ror.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ROR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> identifiers to search for organisations. If your organisation has a ROR identifier select it from the list so that a link is generated.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the \u2018Keyword\u2019 field you can add relevant keywords. Note that in the domain-specific metadata blocks (described below), we have keywords linked to existing domain-specific controlled vocabularies for you to use. Any additional keywords you can add here in the Citation metadata block. If you use keywords from an existing vocabulary you can provide the \u2018Term URI\u2019 and \u2018Vocabulary URI\u2019 in the dedicated fields.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> metadata field \u2018Distributor\u2019 can be used in case of digital re-publication of datasets that were previously published. In these cases the Distributor should be set to the publisher of the original publication.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u2018Language\u2019 field should specify the language of the data in the dataset, not the language in which the dataset is described. The latter should be specified in the \u2018Language of Metadata\u2019 field in the \u2018Rights metadata\u2019 block.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rights metadata<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this block you can provide information about the rightsholder of the data, personal data in the dataset and the language of the metadata.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please indicate if the dataset contains personal data by selecting \u2018Yes\u2019 or \u2018No\u2019. The \u2018Unknown\u2019 option is included for legacy purposes and should not be selected for new datasets.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Relation metadata<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this block you can provide information about other resources to which your dataset is related.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the \u2018Collection\u2019 field, yo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">u have the option to add the dataset to an existing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">collection. A collection shows up as a facet in the Data Station and allows users to find all datasets belonging to that collection more easily. If you would like DANS to create a new collection for your datasets, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/ask-your-question\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">please contact us<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to discuss the possibilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can use the \u2018Relation or Related Material\u2019 field to refer to a related dataset, publication or journal article, preferably using the DOI. If the article has not yet been published, please mention this after the title. In the Description field, indicate when and where the article is expected to appear. Specify the relation type using one of the qualifiers detailed in this list:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Relation<\/b><span>: Use this qualifier if the relation type cannot be described with any of the other available qualifiers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Conforms to<\/b><span>: The current dataset conforms to a particular standard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Has format<\/b><span>: The current dataset is substantially the same as a related resource, but in another format.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Has part<\/b><span>: The current dataset includes a related resource.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>References<\/b><span>: The current dataset references, cites, or otherwise refers to a related resource.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Replaces<\/b><span>: The current dataset supplants, displaces, or supersedes a related dataset.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Requires<\/b><span>: The current dataset requires a related resource to support its function, delivery, or coherence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Has version<\/b><span>: There exists a related dataset which is a version, edition, or adaptation of the current dataset.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Is format of<\/b><span>: There exists a related source that is substantially the same as the current dataset, but in another format.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Is part of<\/b><span>: The current dataset is included in a related resource.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Is referenced by<\/b><span>: There exists a related resource that references, cites, or otherwise points to the current dataset.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Is replaced by<\/b><span>: The current dataset is supplanted, displaced, or superseded by a related dataset.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Is required by<\/b><span>: There exists a related resource that requires the current dataset to support its function, delivery, or coherence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Is version of<\/b><span>: The current dataset is a version, edition, or adaptation of a related dataset.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Temporal and Spatial Coverage<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this block you can provide information about the temporal and spatial coverage of your dataset.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the Data Station Archaeology, Life Sciences and Physical and Technical Sciences this block includes the option to provide a \u2018Spatial Point\u2019 and a \u2018Spatial Box\u2019 where you can include the coordinates of the location where the research was carried out.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 You can use and specify the Dutch Rijksdriehoekstelsel (RD) or Latitude\/Longitude as a reference system. Having coordinates in the metadata makes it possible to have the dataset featured on map displays such as the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ariadne-infrastructure.eu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ARIADNE portal<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for archaeological data <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and to search for datasets on the basis of location.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Domain-specific metadata<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this block you can provide domain-specific information in the Data Station Archaeology and Social Sciences and Humanities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Archaeology<\/em><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n this section, several metadata fields can be used to add appropriate terms from the Dutch vocabulary <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thesaurus.cultureelerfgoed.nl\/search;schemes=abr:b402446a-0a00-4fee-a9cd-1a7f307d651e\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">archaeological basic register<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 (Archeologisch Basisregister, ABR+) and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getty.edu\/research\/tools\/vocabularies\/aat\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you start typing within these fields, an autocomplete functionality will present you with the standardised terms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Social Science and Humanities<\/em><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this section, you can add appropriate terms from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getty.edu\/research\/tools\/vocabularies\/aat\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the European Language Social Science Thesaurus (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/elsst.cessda.eu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ELSST<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cessda.eu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CESSDA<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/vocabularies.cessda.eu\/vocabulary\/TopicClassification\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Topic Classification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. To describe the methodological aspects of (social science) datasets you can include information based on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ddialliance.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DDI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> metadata schema around the study design, data collection and analysis of the data.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uploading files<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After you have provided the metadata, you can add your files to the dataset. Consult our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/file-formats\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">preferred formats<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to see which formats we recommend to make your data most suitable for archiving and reuse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consult our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/depositing-data-manual\/before-depositing_ds\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before Deposit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> guidelines for recommended documentation files to include in addition to your data files (e.g. codebooks, transcripts, readme files).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Multiple files can be uploaded in one ZIP or TAR (other forms of file compression such as .rar or .7z are not supported by DANS). These compressed files will automatically be extracted during the upload. A large dataset can be divided into multiple ZIP or TAR files. Note: ZIP files nested in another ZIP file are not supported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that ZIP files with more than 2000 files will not be extracted. The ZIP file will be indexed in the Data Station which means that once the dataset is published the content of the ZIP file can be viewed and it is possible for users to download individual files from the ZIP file. The storage of data in ZIP files is a good solution for depositing big datasets (multiple GBs) and large volumes of data (thousands of files). If you wish to deposit these larger datasets please <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/stel-je-vraag\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contact<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> DANS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please note that each user is allowed to deposit up to 50 GB of data per account free of charge. If you wish to exceed this amount, please contact DANS. Costs may be calculated for larger data deposits or collections. More information is available <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/rate-information\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setting access and licence<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DANS supports Open Science, and encourages depositors to make their data available \u2018As Open as Possible, as Closed as Necessary\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some data cannot be made openly available and in this case you <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can choose to restrict the access to particular files. If this applies to your dataset, please consult our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.5281\/zenodo.10887483\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">guidebook for depositing restricted access<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Note that in case you decide to restrict access, we ask you to provide a Data Access Protocol (DAP) which outlines the access conditions for the restricted access data. You can use <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.5281\/zenodo.10887571\">this template<\/a> to create a DAP. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When uploading a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">data file, the file <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will initially by default be set to Open Access <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the licence of the dataset will initially by default be set to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/publicdomain\/zero\/1.0\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CC0 1.0<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you need to deviate from this default, you will need to adjust the licence and access setting in the Data Station before submitting your dataset for review.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Selecting a <\/b><b>licence<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can read more about the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">different<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> licences DANS offers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/licences\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In order to select a different licence than CC0 1.0, go to the tab \u2018Terms\u2019 after saving your dataset metadata. On this tab, select \u2018Edit Terms Requirements\u2019. You will then have the option to select a different licence from a menu of various available user licences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For open access datasets, you can select from the Creative Commons licences and other open licences.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For restricted access datasets, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/legal-information\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DANS Licence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should be selected.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The licence you select applies to all the data files of the dataset. The metadata, however, is always freely available under CC0 1.0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Restricting <\/b><b>access to files<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For each individual data file uploaded with the dataset, you can select via \u2018File Options\u2019\/\u2018Edit Files\u2019 if access to the file should be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">restricted or open<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You can also edit this setting for several files or for all files at once by using the checkboxes next to the files. Files that are open can be downloaded by anyone. Files that are restricted can only be downloaded by users after they have submitted an access request that is approved by the depositor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After choosing to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">restrict access<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you will need to check the box \u2018Enable access request\u2019 to allow <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">users to submit an access request for the data files that are restricted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please note that it is <\/span><b><i>not<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> possible for a dataset to have some restricted files for which access requests are enabled, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">other restricted files for which access requests are disabled. Once you enable access requests for even a single restricted file, this option will automatically be set for all restricted files in all versions of the dataset.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please also note that if you upload a new version of a restricted file, the new file will not automatically be set to restricted. For newly uploaded files you need to set the appropriate restrictions again.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Embargo<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to set an embargo on the data, you can indicate this for each individual file via \u2018File Options\u2019\/\u2019Edit Files\u2019; you can also edit this setting for several files or for all files at once by using the checkboxes next to the files. When the embargo expires, the data will become available under the selected <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">licence and access<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DANS encourages embargo periods of 6 months or less.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Retention Period<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar to the embargo period, you can also set a retention period via \u2018File Options\u2019\/\u2019Edit Files\u2019. After the retention period expires the files become unavailable for download.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Changing the access and licence<br \/><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can change the access category, licence and embargo of a published dataset. You can do this by editing the Terms Requirements or by editing the file options. Changes to a more open licence and less restrictions for accessing the data are always allowed. If you want to change to a more restrictive licence or limit the access to open files, however, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/ask-your-question\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">please contact us<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and we will evaluate the situation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Changes of the licence and\/or access restrictions always lead to a new version of the dataset and new versions need to be submitted to the Data Processing Team of DANS <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who review and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">publish them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that if you wish to change the retention period of a published dataset, you will need to contact an administrator to change the end date or reason.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Submitting the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dataset for review<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you have entered all relevant metadata, added your files, selected the correct access categories and licence, you can submit your dataset to DANS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can do so using the \u2018Submit for Review\u2019 button.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You will receive an email with a confirmation that the dataset has been submitted. The email also contains <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/depositing-data-manual\/during-depositing\/persistent-identifiers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">persistent identifier<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of your dataset. Note that after you have submitted your dataset, you will no longer be able to change the dataset yourself without creating a new version. If any changes are still required, please <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/stel-je-vraag\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contact<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a data manager at DANS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the submission fails, there may be a mandatory field that has not been completed. The system will indicate the missing field. Once you have completed this field, click the \u2018Submit for Review\u2019 button again.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Publication by DANS<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DANS processes the dataset according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/legal\/terms-and-conditions-data-stations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terms of Use<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/DANS-Data-Stations-Policy.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data Stations Policy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Data Processing Team reviews the incoming datasets to ensure that the quality is high and the data are FAIR. You can read more about the curation steps we take <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/R.4.6.-Datastations-Data-Processing-Team-Handleiding_for-Publication-1.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in our Data Processing Manual<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/depositing-data-manual\/after-depositing_ds\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Deposit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> section of our manual.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we have questions about your dataset or require more information before we can publish the dataset, you will be contacted by one of our DANS employees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the dataset is approved by DANS, it is published and you will be notified by email.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DOI of your dataset is then activated an<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d your data will be permanently <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">archived.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your dataset will be findable for others and accessible in line with the access category, licence and possible restrictions you set. T<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/DANS-Data-Stations-Policy.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data Stations Policy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provides more <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">information about how DANS ensures the accessibility and readability of datasets, and sets out the principles that DANS applies to long-term preservation of digital research data.
