CoreTrustSeal Requirements community review

5 June 2025

The CoreTrustSeal Board is seeking input for proposed changes to the requirements to take effect for 2026-2028.

Every three years, the CoreTrustSeal Requirements are reviewed by the Board and the full community of certified repositories, reviewers, and others looking to share their input. This helps keep the Requirements as up to date and relevant as possible to the current repository community, acknowledging that the environment develops and knowledge about best practices and how to expose information about a repository advances fast.

The Board has proposed their changes to the Requirements for their new version and has now opened this up to community input. Through a survey, opinions can be shared on the proposed changes and other changes can be suggested.

The Board will then consider all the input received and update the proposed revision to include the most important points raised by the community. The new Requirements (V04.00) will come into effect on January 1st 2026 and remain until 2028.

“CoreTrustSeal is built on the principles of community and peer support. That is how we review applications and are able to certify other repositories by drawing on the expertise of community members. And from the start, this peer review quality has also been applied to making sure the CoreTrustSeal organisation itself remains relevant and useful for the community. This process shows the strength of how we decide what is important to our community together.”
