PID Graph of Dutch science

Curious about information about Dutch science? The NARCIS.nl portal provides information about Dutch science through the linking of persistent identifiers in a PID Graph.

A persistent identifier (PID) is similar to a citizen service number for digital objects; it is a unique and permanent number to which all kinds of information is linked. The use of PIDs is important to reliably refer to the right article, person, or organization. These PIDs and the linking of a PID to another PID improve the findability, accessibility and navigation of research data. PIDs can be linked automatically because PIDs are also readable by computers.

The European project FREYA underlines the power of PIDs and is building an infrastructure for PIDs as an essential part of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The national portal NARCIS.nl provides information about (open access) publications, datasets, research projects, scientists and research institutes. Recently, the information in NARCIS has been enriched using existing and new PIDs. For example, research organizations are now clearly identifiable in NARCIS because they now contain the new PID research organization identifier (ROR).
