European Research Council publishes new information on Open Research Data and RDMPs

16 September 2021

The European Research Council (ERC) has recently updated their information on Open Research Data and Research Data Management Plans (RDMPs). Anyone who receives a grant from the ERC is bound by their policy on Open Science.

The renewed publication is interesting for anyone who is looking for data repositories in a specific field or for a certain data type, such as images. For example, the publication mentions the DANS archive for the deposit of archaeological data, alongside repositories of European infrastructures such as CESSDA for the social sciences, or ELIXIR for the life sciences.

The ERC states that grant recipients should look at the sustainability of the repository, in addition to the FAIR aspects such as metadata standards and licences for reuse. According to the ERC: “It is important that the data are of sufficient technical and scientific quality and are sufficiently annotated and structured to be useful to the community.” Because this can be time-consuming, part of the grant may be earmarked for annotation, for instance.
