9 December 2020

The Victorine van Schaikfonds prize of 2500 euro and a medal goes to Cornelis van Lit with his book “Among Digitized Manuscripts. Philology, Codicology, Paleography in a Digital World”. Cornelis van Lit is collaborating with Dirk Roorda, researcher at DANS, on Cornelis’ FUSUS project in which DANS is participating, thanks to a contribution from Research IT Innovation Fund of the University of Utrecht.

Every year the Victorine van Schaickfonds awards articles in the field of library and information. In his prize-winning publication, Cornelis van Lit makes a plea for the emancipated humanities scholar. In other words, the researcher who can independently find and use the digital tools that help him in his research. By publishing both the chapters and the resources of the book Open Access, it is a textbook example of open knowledge sharing. The chapters and resources are available in the corresponding repository.

In the FUSUS project, Cornelis van Lit and Dirk Roorda work together on all the problems that arise when classic Arabic books in printed form are transformed into structured text.
