PURE3D 2.0 is an Open Science NL-funded infrastructure project led by Maastricht University to build a sustainable and open infrastructure for 3D Scholarship. It allows researchers to create rich 3D models accompanied by textual annotations, articles and audio narratives through the creation of interactive publications: 3D Scholarly Editions.
Building on the existing PURE3D infrastructure, the first open, non-commercial platform for rich 3D-based scholarly narratives, PURE3D 2.0 addresses key gaps in preservation, dynamic analysis, interoperability, and accessibility.
As an expert in certified and sustainable archiving, DANS was responsible in the first PURE3D project for the adaptation to the FAIR principles. Workshops to place, new guidelines were created and knowledge exchange about preferred formats took place.
In PURE3D 2.0, DANS tackles the interoperability of datasets and 3D data using several use-cases. Improving FAIR workflows ensuring sustainable archiving of 3D data and working together with the involved partners to improve seamless integration with (inter)national infrastructures is our new goal.
The PURE3D infrastructure is disciplinary-agnostic and accessible to researchers and the public with varying levels of digital expertise, making 3D scholarship available worldwide.
