OpenAIRE stands for Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe. The purpose of OpenAIRE2020 is to provide open access to publications and datasets which are (partly) funded with European funding. Open access for publications is already mandatory, for datasets a pilot (Research Data Pilot) is started. OpenAIRE2020 is funded by the European Horizon 2020 program, and is the successor of OpenAIRE and OpenAIREPlus. There are partners from 50 European countries. The University of Athens is the leader of the project.
DANS has various activities within OpenAIRE2020:
- Together with TU/Delft, DANS acts as National Open Access Desk (NOAD) for the Netherlands. The NOAD informs institutes about OpenAIRE, open access publications, research data, copyright etc.
- In addition, DANS is the thematic coordinator for research data management (RDM) and its mission is to create a support kit for the NOADs, with factsheets, FAQs, overview of trustworthy digital repositories and presentations.
- DANS is also involved in developing services to literature data integration with respect to the social sciences and humanities.
- DANS also collaborates with NWO to find open access publications, resulting from research funded by NWO, via text mining in the OpenAIRE network with the aim offering impact research services.
