After depositing

Aspects to keep in mind after you deposit your data:

Overview of datasets

Under My datasets you will see a list of your datasets including the download history under the Activity log tab. The download history is not available for datasets in the Open access category. If a user has chosen not to be anonymous when downloading datasets, you can also see who downloaded your data.

Request for access to your dataset

If you have selected the Restricted Access (request permission) category, you will receive an email from DANS as soon as someone wants to use your data. The email contains a link to the requestor’s contact details and motivation. You can choose one of three actions in response:

  1. Return, more information required: Select this option if you want to receive additional information from the requestor.
  2. Grant access: Select this option if you want to grant the requestor access to your data.
  3. Deny access: Select this option if you refuse to give access to your data.

If you grant access, the DANS Licence automatically applies. Before granting access, you can also impose additional conditions on the user. It is important that you use your EASY account with a stable email address.

Citing your dataset

We ask you to cite your dataset in accordance with the DataCite recommendations.

This source reference will consist of:

  • The name(s) and/or organisation of the creator(s) of the dataset;
  • The year in which the dataset was produced;
  • The title of the dataset;
  • The name of the organisation managing the archive in which the dataset is stored: DANS;
  • The persistent identifier of the dataset as a full URL.

For example:

Doorn, dr P.K.; Bommeljé, drs L.S.; Vroom, dr J.A.C.; Wijngaarden, drs H. van; Bommeljé, drs Y.B. (1990): The Aetolian Studies Project. DANS. https://doi.org/10.17026/dans-xxu-6utq

In EASY, the citation of your dataset will be included in the Overview tab.
